A few questions for my readers...

I'm speaking to my few readers, those with a blog (and the others). Do people in your real life know about your blog? Would you like friends/coworkers/family members/acquaintance to visit your blog and read what you have to say?

For those of us that blog anonymously, without our name or location or a picture or details that would make us easy to trace back in real life. Do you worry that you could be traced back to your real life? Why do you blog anonymously? How would you react if you were "found"???

And for those who post with their name/location/picture, why did you chose that?

I don't use my name (too many freaks) or my precise location, nor do I post information that would make me or my workplace easy to find. I don't blog about anything that I would be in trouble if people IRL knew about. I wouldn't post anything that I wouldn't want to deal with in my every day life. Sure, I prefer to remain a faceless person on the Internet BUT if my coworker read my blog, they wouldn't be shocked or I wouldn't be in trouble. Same for my friends and anyone. Still, I prefer to keep my private information, private. mrgreen

Make sense? Tell me about your privacy choices. smile

Yes, I'm pretty open about my blog, my name, and my location. I don't put my last name up there but it wouldn't be hard to find me, I'm sure.

I guess I did that because 1) my blog is about my family and I'm not going to not put pictures, etc., up because there are freaks in the world, and 2) I don't have the intellectual firepower or energy to keep remembering all the "code names" I'd have to use for the children if I were being more circumspect.

I am careful about what I write insomuch as I try to think about what I'd do if the people I wrote about read my blog. About 18 months ago, my sister read some throwaway comment I made about her and our deteriorating relationship and that's the last I heard from her. I'll take the blame that I'm due but the comment wasn't that bad. Still, I don't want people coming away from my blog with a bad feeling.

I guess I look at it as part of my witness of Christ. If I want to be the person that Christ wants me to be, that should surely be ok to put on my blog.

FWIW,
Lori

Thanks for sharing Lori. It really makes sense and I understand what you mean.

Even if I'm anonymous, I wouldn't post anything that I would mind people in real life reading , may they be friends/family/coworkers etc.

I'm pretty open. My online life is the same as my real life. How I am in my blog or on message boards is how I am in real life. People in real life know about my blog, read it, occasionally leave comments, or call me wanting more info or verification about something. I am very easy to find (have even had directions to my house googled and posted in a message board by someone) and make no secret about anything.

The why is because I am who I am.

This makes sense Kim, as much as I understand giving as much information, I wouldn't do it because there are many dangerous freaks out there and I wouldn't want to be a target for them.

im half and half - i dont tell everyone, but I do tell someone people. My coworkers dont know, my friends do, my parents and family does, my fiancee does not... ok ive told him he just doenst remeber and i keep forgetting to remind him...

sometimes im embarrassed so im semiprivate becuase.. im a terible writer/speller.

ive told no one in law school becuase there is a professional clause that can cause big problems and get me kicked out, so i just am avoiding the whole debauchle

i suppose i am bit half and half. i blog with my first name but do not disclose my last. i guess i did that because, well, i recently changed it so it still kind of feels like being anonymous (to people that aren't close to me and are not aware of the name change) and because i like the name so much and because my friend faith blogs with her real name. i give my actual location. because i do refer to surrounding cities and places. i don't really care to make up lots of code stuff. i don't tell people i have a blog though. only 4 of my friends know i have one and only two of those four read it regularly. but they have blogs too and it's fun to keep up with each other this way and comment back and forth. my blog is very much like a diary. i try to be as honest as i can but i am careful about some things i write about. i don't disclose details about relationships and stuff. but i do forget sometimes that this is public information. however, i really don't think that people in real life would find me easily because most people in my life don't know that jehara is my personal pseudonym. but if someone did find it, i guess it would be okay. i have a right to feel the way i feel about things and express those feelings however i see fit.

okay, this became a very longwinded answer. sorry about that. :)
